Mr. Geary grew up in Henrico County, Virginia .  Mr. Geary graduated from the T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond . 
Mr. Geary served as Chief Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney for the City of Richmond from 2006 to 2009.  As Chief Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney, Mr. Geary was responsible for managing daily operations of the second largest prosecutor's office in the Commonwealth of Virginia . 
Mr. Geary serves on the boards for the Richmond Police Foundation and the Capital Area Alcohol Safety Action Program.  Mr. Geary is also an adjunct law professor at the T.C. Williams School of Law where he teaches trial advocacy to second year law students.  Mr. Geary is a member of Governor Bob McDonnell's Public Safety and Public Policy Transition Team.
Mr. Geary served as the President of the Richmond Criminal Bar Association, the Board of Governors of the Virginia State Bar, Criminal Section, and Chair of the Criminal Law Section of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association. 
Mr. Geary served for three years as Counsel to the Courts of Justice Committee in the Virginia House of Delegates.  As Counsel to the Courts of Justice Committee, Mr. Geary advised the members of the committee on proposed amendments to Virginia 's criminal and traffic code.  
Mr. Geary defends persons charged with traffic infractions, including speeding, failure to obey traffic light, and failure to yield, and serious traffic crimes, including drunk driving, reckless driving, hit and run, and eluding a police officer in the cities of Richmond and Colonial Heights and the Counties of Chesterfield, Henrico, Powhatan, Hanover, Sussex, Dinwiddie, Prince George, Caroline, and Goochland.  Mr. Geary also handles criminal offenses throughout Virginia.
